- They were introduced by government to help skill learners and to prepare them for the workplace.

Coaching and Mentoring
Coaching and Mentoring form an integral part of an individual’s development, both personally and professionally.
Mentoring relates primarily to the identification and nurturing of potential for the whole person. It can be a long-term relationship, where the goals may change but are always set by the learner.
Coaching relates primarily to performance improvement (often short-term) in a specific skills area. The goals, or at least the intermediate or sub-goals, are typically set with or at the suggestion of the coach.
Whilst Coaching is more “task” oriented and Mentoring is more “relationship” oriented, both provide a vital platform for individuals to grow and provide increased value to their organizations.
Pachedu believes that specific training interventions (particularly learnerships and internships) should be strategically aligned and coupled with effective Mentoring and Coaching programmes to increase the benefits to the business and have a lifelong and sustainable impact on an individual’s personal and professional growth.
Training initiatives are coupled with effective coaching sessions to ultimately achieve three goals in the business:
- Development of one’s personal growth and individual skills.
- The development of a team’s skills and ability to integrate working styles to best align with strategic company goals and enhance team performance.
- Development of an organization’s skills to drive organizational change.
Grant funding applications
Many businesses aren’t aware of the funding that is available to them for Skills Development and Training, or may not have the time and expertise to apply for funding with the SETA.
There are two types of funding available for businesses:
Discretionary Grants and Pivotal Grants.
Pachedu assists clients with the full grant funding process, in order to maximize the potential of receiving funds, and in turn, implement relevant training interventions to upskill employees and increase their value to the organization.
SETA’s were set up by Government to:
- Identify skills development needs in each sector
- Oversee the development and implementation of strategic sector skills development plans
- Approve proposed training interventions with organizations
- Manage the standard for education and training within an agreed national framework
- Facilitate with the payments of grants to levy skills payers
For an organisation to be able to claim back from SETA, a Skills Development Facilitator (SDF) needs to be appointed, who is required to be registered with a SETA body relevant to the organization they are applying for grants for. Once an SDF has been appointed, they will assist in compiling a Workplace Skills Plan (WSP) and Annual Training Report (ATR) for the business, which is then submitted to SETA.
